ProCricket USA
ProCricket USA Game
Chicago Tornadoes V/s SF Freedom
Wow how exciting ! Drive up to an Indian store in the morning to find the Ad of this game . Immediately got tickets to it .
This ground is basically a Baseball ground and the surface is matting . The ball is akin to the White cricket ball used in ODI cricket but they use a Pakistani brand. Dont quite know what the make was . This event was being televised and was shown on pay per view in the US . So they had a makeshift "Commentator's booth " for sake of a name. All that the booth comprised was a steel table with 3 monitors , a chair for the scorer , an umpire(looked like an American ) and a commentator .
The crowd , a handful comprised of desis who wanted to give the players a piece of their mind every now and then . Chicago Tornadoes were the first to bat , with Ricardo Powell ( WI) to bat and dispatched couple of balls from Franklyn Rose's first over to the boundary . Though Ricardo didnt last too long and was bowled .
Then arrived Robin Singh . When Robin Singh ( Chicago Tornadoes) was batting , he wasnt hitting the ball so well initially when a guy from the crowd shouted " Manmatha Raasa " . This was the joke of the day for me . I just couldnt control laughing out aloud . Thanks to some lusty blows from the batsmen at the end , CHI tornadoes scored 157 in the alloted 20 overs .
SF Freedom were consistent in their batting and aggresively surpassed CHI Tornadoes total . We switched our seating to the side of the SF team after the interval . The coach of the SF team was explaining certain advanced concepts of the game to a few Americans . There were quite a few Americans trying to witness the game . I was really touched by their zeal to learn and appreciate a new game . They seemed to have fun with their beers and laughs and the periodic analogy from baseball that they agreed upon . It was interesting to make use of terms like base (for stumps ), pitch (bounce) and curve baller (spinner ) in their loud conversations during the match .
Last but not the least , I wanna kill the on field commentator who I'd like to name Mr Duh . It was funny to see him utter words for the actions of the umpire, like a wide ball or a four . Not to mention the pathetic sense of grammar that the man carried . "100 by the loss of 3 " instead of 100 for the loss of 3 ! Oh Man i wanted to strangle this guy so bad . He really needs some lessons in English grammar and maybe a course in Math as he goofed up the runs remaining in the end .
All in all timepass for a Saturday night and got to see some good hitting especially from the SF team .
